Jason Schulist was a guest on Focus Fox Valley with Hayley Tenpas.
Listen to the 30-minute episode here.
- The Fox Valley Data Exchange is a free, centralized data hub for Calumet, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties, designed to make community data easy to find, understand, and use for decision-making.
- It replaces and expands on the earlier Fox Cities LIFE Study, offering fresher data, more geographic detail, and a broader focus on community wellbeing.
- Data are organized around seven Vital Conditions for Wellbeing (like humane housing, basic needs, lifelong learning, transportation, and belonging), helping users frame issues in terms of overall quality of life.
- The platform pulls in many indicators from dozens of public and private sources and keeps them updated automatically so users can work with current numbers, including recent 2023 data.
- Nonprofits, foundations, public agencies, healthcare, businesses, and others can all use the site to explore local conditions, compare places, and support grants, planning, and policy with evidence.
- Story-based videos (like Peter Lee’s) show how everyday community members use the tool to understand conditions in their neighborhoods and to connect data to lived experience.
- Users are encouraged to engage further by sharing local datasets, volunteering skills (data or communications), attending trainings, and generally spreading the word so more decisions in the region are data-informed
